Vonn Masterful in 59th World Cup Win

MARIBOR, Slovenia (Jan. 26) - Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) powerfully mastered the Golden Fox in Maribor for a stunning giant slalom victory to capture the 59th Audi FIS Alpine World Cup win of her career. Third after the opening run, Vonn accelerated immediately after breaking the start wand, nearly went on her hip mid run and picked up speed all the way to the finish to win the second run, regulating hometown hero Tina Maze to second. The four-time World Cup overall champion is now three short of Austrian great Annemarie Moser-Proell's women's victory record of 62. Universal Sports Network will broadast the race at 1:30 p.m. ET.

I don't know what to say. I skied well the first run, but I didn't ski the bottom very well and in the second run I just said 'ok, it's all or nothing, I have to go for it.' I definitely made some mistakes but to have my first win in GS since last year is perfect.

When I made that mistake, I thought I wasn't going to finish. I was like 'no, not again' because three years ago I was in second place and I crashed three gates from the finish and I didn't want to have that happen again.

I had not skied a giant slalom for a month. I was hoping for a good result but not to win but this course perfectly suits my style.

The timing for the world championships could not be more perfect. This is a highlight after a tough moment. It also convinced me I could do well in giant slalom and I will race in four events at the worlds.
