Patterson and Norris Win Super Tour Classic

LAKE PLACID, NY (January 31, 2016) – Competition continued Sunday in Lake Placid with a 10k classic individual start, which concluded Period II of the USSA Super Tour. Caitlin Patterson (Craftsbury Green Racing Project), defending 2016 National Champion in the 10k classic and David Norris (APU Nordic Ski Center) dominated the races.

In the women’s competition, it was a repeat podium from the 2016 U.S. Cross Country Championships 10k classic individual start. Once again, Patterson skied against the course to a convincing first place, one minute ahead of teammate Kaitlynn Miller (Craftsbury Green Racing Project) and Chelsea Holmes (APU Nordic Ski Center) who finished third.

In the men’s 10k, Norris claimed his second victory of the weekend by 44.5 seconds over Kris Freeman (Freebird) and Alexander Treinen (APU Nordic Ski Center) who finished third.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Period III of the USSA Super Tour begins February 5-6 in Trapps, Vermont with a 10/5k freestyle and 10/10k classic races.
  • At the U.S. Championships, Caitlin Patterson won the 10k classic individual start by 36 seconds over teammate Kaitlynn Miller.
  • In the women’s competition, U.S. Ski Team members Katharine Ogden (Landgrove, VT) and Julia Kern (Waltham, MA) finished fifth and 13th, respectively.
  • In the men’s competition, U.S. Ski Team members Patrick Caldwell (Lyme, NH) and Ben Saxton (Lakeville, MN) finished eighth and 11th, respectively.
  • The 10k race was skied on a 2.5k loop.
