Innovative, multi-revenue-stream partnership will bring Olympic athletes, domestic World Cup events, and instructional content streaming to 250 million active users.

BOULDER, Colorado OR PARK CITY, Utah (October 17, 2022) – In a move that links America’s snowsports governing body and the country’s largest creator of outdoor recreation media and services, U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside Interactive, Inc., today announced a longterm strategic partnership to create and broadcast snowsports content. For the first time, FIS World Cup alpine, cross country, freestyle, snowboard, and freeski events held in the United States will be available to stream on all Outside platforms, including OutsideOnline.com, SkiMag.com, the Outside App, and Outside Watch. The partnership will also launch a bundled Outside+ and U.S. Ski & Snowboard consumer membership, as well as business partnerships in competition registration, photography services, Web3 innovation, and sponsorship sales.

As part of the partnership, Outside becomes the streaming broadcaster of domestic U.S. World Cups, with more than 90 hours of competition in the 2022-23 season. The season’s eight alpine, freestyle, snowboard, and freeski domestic FIS World Cup events include the Killington Cup, Xfinity Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek, Aspen World Cup, Palisades Tahoe World Cup, Freestyle International at Deer Valley, the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth and Copper, and the Visa Big Air at Copper. The coverage will also feature never-before-televised snowboard and freeski qualifiers at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air. In addition to these events, Outside will air new and archival non-event programming.

“We are delighted about this new partnership with Outside,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO. “It enables the passionate fans of skiing and snowboarding in the United States to watch our major domestic events and to combine the U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Outside communities in an innovative multi-platform partnership. We have the most FIS World Cups on U.S. soil in history this winter, and we are proud to showcase those incredible events with Outside to inspire new and seasoned ski and snowboard fans. Outside is more than a distribution partner with incredible channels and scale; what really attracted us was the opportunity to build a strategic alliance to allow our community to more deeply engage with our athletes, content and other new offerings.”

“First and foremost, we’re honored to support the Olympic movement and help U.S. Ski & Snowboard nurture the next generation of American medal hopefuls,” said Robin Thurston, CEO of Outside. “Nothing could be more inspiring for a young skier than to watch champions come up through the ranks, dominate and take gold with the national anthem playing. This partnership will bring those special moments to more eyeballs, along with hundreds of hours of exciting video content from Outside Watch, Warren Miller and our brand partners. With U.S. Ski & Snowboard, we’re creating a one-stop resource where skiers and snowboarders will find motivation along with the world’s richest archive of gear, travel, and instructional content.”

The partnership will also lead to the creation of a unique membership bundle for U.S. Ski & Snowboard members, one that provides access to Outside+ premium content, educational videos, SKI Magazine content, GPS mapping services, outdoor industry gear discounts and NASTAR, the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world.

In addition to airing races, Outside will have access to an extensive archive of ski and snowboard footage, as well as the opportunity to produce original content franchises with the team’s athletes, coaches and other experts. U.S. Ski & Snowboard will also utilize Outside’s expertise in competition software and Web3 to develop innovative services for its membership and fans of the sports.

PARK CITY, UTAH (October 10, 2022) – U.S. Ski & Snowboard confirms a two-year deal with resorts in Sun Valley, Idaho, and Waterville Valley, New Hampshire to host the Toyota U.S. Alpine National Championships and the Toyota U.S. Freestyle National Championships through the 2024 season.

“Sun Valley and Waterville have a proven track record of hosting competitions and we could not be more excited to have them on board for the next two years,” says Eric Webster, Director of Events at U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “U.S. Ski & Snowboard is excited to support the organizing committees and look forward to cheering on the athletes, many of whom are currently on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team rosters.”

Each year, the Toyota U.S. National Championships bring top athletes from each division and a handful of international racers to storied national venues. Both locations have experienced organizing committees and involved ski clubs that have put on large-scale events in the past, including NorAm Championships, World Cups, Junior Nationals and other notable winter competitions.

Alpine Nationals in the West

From April 2-5, Sun Valley Resort will host the 2023 Toyota U.S. Alpine Championships with both men and women competing in slalom, giant slalom and super-G events. The course in Sun Valley has a storied history of alpine racing, along with technical and challenging terrain, and will feature local U.S. Alpine Ski Team athletes such as Ryder Sarchett, Jack Smith and Dasha Romanov.

“As the first destination ski resort in North America, we are proud to be a location where history and memories are made. We last hosted the U.S. Alpine Championships in 2018, and we are looking forward to welcoming back athletes to our beautiful community, where people have come to enjoy the incredible terrain and experience since 1936," said Sun Valley Resort Director of Marketing & PR Bridget Higgins. "Sun Valley's history is steeped in unifying competition and team camaraderie, and we're looking forward to seeing friendly and healthy competition foster incredible performances. We are so proud that three Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation members are on the team.”

Freestyle Champs in the East

Freestyle skiing lies at the heart of the Waterville Valley and the community of Mount Tecumseh is excited to welcome back world-class freestyle athletes to the “Birthplace of Freestyle Skiing.” Waterville Valley has hosted several competitions in years past and many legendary freestyle skiers have competed on this mountain, namely Wayne Wong, Doug Pfeiffer, Nick Preston and 2x Olympic medalist Hannah Kearney.

“Waterville Valley is home to a thriving community of young athletes, from the BBTS Snowsports Club to the Waterville Valley Academy,” says Sarah Van Kralingen, Marketing and Communications Manager at Waterville Valley Resort. “We hope events like this will inspire and influence aspiring young athletes, demonstrating the phenomenal skill, athleticism and sportsmanship involved in freestyle skiing.”

The moguls and dual moguls events will take place at Waterville Valley Resort on locals’ favorite Lower Bobby’s Run—a steep and technical track perfectly positioned for spectators at the base.

The full schedule of races will be available closer to the event.

Our community’s alpine heritage and love of skiing runs deep and everyone pitches in to support events that bring the best in the world to Aspen. Having the men on our iconic America’s Downhill track will be incredible. World Cup Finals in 2017 was amazing, but we haven’t seen this level of racing on that course in years. The energy, the excitement, the crowds lining the course, and the speedI believe people will be blown away by what they see on one of the world’s most exciting downhill venues."

Xfinity Birds of Prey - Beaver Creek Resort, Colorado
Nadia Guerriero, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Beaver Creek Resort

Ross Leonhart, Marketing and Multi-Media Manager, Vail Valley Foundation
“As a staple on the World Cup circuit since 1997, we are excited to see more ski racing on American soil this year. We know there is an appetite for ski racing in the United States and can’t wait to see more of it. The annual Birds of Prey races in Beaver Creek have become known as the kickoff to winter in North America and a celebration of exciting speed events. There’s nothing quite like World Cup ski racing and the atmosphere that comes along with it, especially here in the United States.”

Dustin Lyman, President and General Manager, Copper Mountain
"As Copper embarks on its 50th anniversary season, we are thrilled to honor our longstanding partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard and welcome the return of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, and the Visa Big Air presented by Toyota event. We look forward to another great year ahead."

“It is truly an honor to welcome the World Cup each year to Killington. Watching world-class athletes racing down Superstar, encouraged by such a passionate crowd, is an unmatched experience. The Killington Cup is about the community as much as the competition and in the past, the number of fans in attendance has broken records. We're excited to return this year with Friday night festivities like the bib draw and fireworks and the new K-1 Lodge to welcome them all. I personally can't wait to see if Mikaela Shiffrin will be able to hold on to her title for the sixth time or if a new face will claim the crown."

“Mammoth is proud to host our 17th Toyota U.S. Grand Prix here in our Unbound Terrain Parks. This year, the resort is hosting a men’s event for the first time since 1969. The event will be held on the same trail used in 2017 for the women’s alpine cup races; the course was described as one of the toughest venues on the women’s circuit. Palisades Tahoe is honored to host a world cup event and eagerly awaits the positive energy brought to the community by a World Cup event.”

Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International Ski World Cup - Deer Valley, Utah

U.S. Ski & Snowboard Partners With GMTM For Future Athlete Identification

By Leann Bentley
September, 14 2022

U.S. Ski & Snowboard Partners With GMTM For Future Athlete Identification and gives young athletes around the country an opportunity to try out for the U.S. Aerials Ski Team team virtually.

Have you watched the Olympic Winter Games and thought, ‘I want to do that’? Now you have the opportunity. U.S. Ski & Snowboard has partnered with GMTM to recruit young athletes and Olympic hopefuls to gain attention from Olympic coaches in aerials skiing through the U.S. Aerials Ski Team Pipeline: Digital Combine

Aerials skiing became an Olympic sport at the 1994 Games and consists of a skier performing flips and spins off a jump and landing on an inclined hill. Aerialists’ scores are based on their jumps, air time, form, landing and degree of difficulty of the jump performed.

Aerials skiers come from various backgrounds, including gymnastics, diving, trampolining, BMX biking and more. And the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team is looking to recruit athletes to join the pipeline for the Olympic Winter Games.

Through U.S. Ski & Snowboard on GMTM, athletes can participate in activities hosted by Team USA scouts and coaches to gain exposure and be seen by the best in the sport. Through questionnaires, video uploads and messaging to connect athletes to coaches, young skiers will be one step closer to competing for the nation's national team.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is the United States’ National Governing Body (NGB) for skiing and snowboarding and hosts national and international competitions while helping athletes compete. U.S. Ski & Snowboard is also responsible for nominating athletes to Team USA—the nation's team for the Olympic Games.

The U.S Aerials Ski Team Pipeline: Digital Combine offers experienced skiers and new athletes from other sports backgrounds a step-by-step process to begin participating in the sport. Through the event page, five unique activities allow participants to showcase a variety of talents from different disciplines. Those activities include:

1. Athlete Background - Build your ATHLETE profile and share what interests you about the U.S. Aerials Ski Team.

2. Highlight Reel - Upload a highlight reel or a video of your highest sporting achievement.

3. Standing Backflip - Upload a video of your standing backflip, aerial training or trampoline work so that our team can review your submission.

4. 40-Yard Dash - Upload your 40-yard dash time below and a video recording of your sprint so our team can review your submission.

5. Vertical Jump - Upload your vertical jump measurement below and a video recording of your jump so our team can review your submission.

The partnership between GMTM and U.S. Ski & Snowboard allows youth skiers to interact in real-time and build a profile that organizes accomplishments, metrics and content, which is visible to coaches.

If you are a skier or an athlete from another sport hoping to find an opportunity with U.S. Ski & Snowboard, create a profile now and stay tuned for new events coming to GMTM.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced today the appointment of Anouk Patty as the organization’s new Chief of Sport. Patty will develop and implement the organization’s athletic strategic plan working with the elite programs and pipeline development in all disciplines across the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboard Team and U.S. Freeski Team. Patty’s appointment is part of an organizational restructuring for U.S. Ski & Snowboard, designed to enhance athletic performance across each sport at all levels.

Patty comes to U.S. Ski & Snowboard following an intensive search to fill the Chief of Sport position. She is a decorated alpine skier who has provided visionary leadership at blue-chip corporations throughout her career. Most recently, she was the Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Dropbox and has held senior roles at Hewlett-Packard, Intuit, Bain & Company and J.P. Morgan. Patty competed on the U.S. Alpine Ski Team in the 1980s and raced for Dartmouth College, where she was a three-time All-American and won the NCAA Skiing Championship in 1988. She is on the board of POWDR, the parent company of U.S. Ski & Snowboard event venues including Killington Resort and Copper Mountain, and previously sat on the board of Green Mountain Valley School. She has her MBA from Harvard Business School and an executive education certificate in leadership in innovation from Stanford Business School.

“Anouk’s unique skill set combining business and sport knowledge made her the ideal strategic leader for this role,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. “We are thrilled to have her return to her roots to manage the vision and road map for all sports from development to the elite level, as well as optimize success in athlete programs and high performance.”

The core focus of the Chief of Sport role is to lead the organization to the next level of athletic performance from the grassroots to elite levels. Patty will work hand-in-hand with Goldschmidt to ensure that the sports are also integrated within the business side of the organization, as well as working closely with all key internal and external stakeholders.

“It is an honor to be joining U.S. Ski & Snowboard as the Chief of Sport,” said Patty. “The organization has a great foundation and I plan to further develop our athlete-centric culture while also emphasizing development in each sport to build an even stronger future. I’m excited to work with Sophie, the sport directors, coaches and athletes to enhance our athletic programs and create a robust talent pipeline that will compete with the world’s best.”

In addition to the appointment of the Chief of Sport, following an extensive search internationally and in the U.S., Patrick Riml will return to U.S. Ski & Snowboard as Alpine Director. Riml began with U.S. Ski & Snowboard in 2001 as a coach, served as Head Coach of the women’s team in 2003-08 and was the Alpine Director from 2011-18, overseeing some of the most successful teams in U.S. Ski & Snowboard history. He has most recently been serving as the Alpine Director for the Austrian Ski Federation.

“We are thrilled to have Patrick return to build on the success in alpine and bring the program to the next level from the development to World Cup level,” said Goldschmidt. “His proven breadth of expertise in working with world-class athletes and understanding of developing young talent makes him the right leader for our alpine program. His intimate knowledge of the U.S. system combined with broad European experience, along with his expertise and passion for athletes at all levels will be extremely valuable for our program.”

“I am very happy to be returning to the alpine program at U.S. Ski & Snowboard,” said Riml. “The program is unmatched in its potential and I’m excited to be working with both the talent coming up through the ranks and the elite athletes to help the skiers achieve their dreams.”

Patty will join the organization in early April, while Riml will start at the end of March.

“These additions to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletics department combine proven experience with the fresh outside perspective required for innovation and moving our sports forward to their maximum potential,” said Kipp Nelson, U.S. Ski & Snowboard Board of Directors Chairman. “These transitions require a lot of thought and effort and this has been a thorough process. We are proud to welcome Anouk as the leader of the team and to bring Patrick back into the fold. Anouk’s wealth of experience in both sport and business will move the needle and with support from someone like Patrick, with a proven track record at all levels, will help push our organization to new heights from the development level upwards.”

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is also in the process of hiring a new Freestyle Sport Development Director to concentrate on the moguls and aerials teams, and will be introducing a High Performance Advisory Group to work with both Goldschmidt and Patty. The group will be focused on keeping the organization on the cutting edge of sport performance by learning best practices from other sports, sectors and organizations.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced today a new partnership with Woodward, designating Woodward Copper, Colorado and Woodward Park City, Utah facilities as Official Training Centers for U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes through January 2025. This agreement will see athletes from U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the Olympic National Governing Body (NGB) of ski and snowboard sports in the United States, training at Woodward Copper and Woodward Park City leading up to the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, providing invaluable access as athletes train to reach podiums.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Woodward to elevate our freeski and snowboard athletes’ training,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard Director Jeremy Forster. “Woodward’s facilities at Copper Mountain and in Park City will provide key year-round training for our Pro and Rookie Team athletes for years to come.”

Woodward Copper, located at Copper Mountain, Colorado, stands out as a top training destination for every level of competitor. Along with its Superpipe and Central Park, the resort recently debuted two airbag training zones for elite-level halfpipe and big air athletes, which offers some of the best and most consistent training for freeskiers and snowboarders.

“Over time Woodward Copper has evolved to become the proving ground for snowboarding and progression,” says Red Gerard, U.S. Olympic slopestyle gold medalist. “I am beyond thrilled that Copper has leveled up even more with the addition of new training bags and an official partnership with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team.”

“Our partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard is stronger than ever and we’re proud to provide even more world-class training opportunities for their athletes,” said Dustin Lyman, president and general manager of Copper Mountain. “For decades, we’ve looked forward to hosting U.S. Team athletes for training and competition each season. It is our privilege to expand this partnership, and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team is a big reason why we are considered the Athlete’s Mountain.”

Woodward Park City, Utah provides consistent, year-round access to high-performance training indoor and outdoor venues, including the 66,000 square-foot indoor Action Sports Hub, which is comprised of trampolines, foam pits and proprietary training tools, along with the outdoor Mountain Park, which includes a superpipe and big air jump.

“It’s been amazing to see Woodward embrace progression and training areas indoors and on-mountain at both Copper and Woodward Park City,” says Shaun White, five-time Olympian and professional snowboarder. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the pipes at both places the past two seasons getting ready for the Olympics.”

“Woodward Park City was built with the intention of empowering and inspiring the next generation of action sports athletes,” explains Woodward Park City General Manager Phoebe Mills. “This partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard furthers our commitment to current and future U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes and encourages local youth to dream big.”

The partnership with Woodward gives U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team athletes new tools and venues for athletes to progress through the next four-year cycle in preparation for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Woodward’s indoor and outdoor high-performance training venues create an ideal setting for training high level athletes in multiple disciplines.

January, 31 2022
Vaurnet - USSS

Vuarnet, the iconic French eyewear brand, and U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the Olympic national governing body of skiing and snowboarding in the United States, announced today a new agreement to become an Official Eyewear Supplier of the U.S. Ski Team.

Vuarnet’s alpine heritage and Olympic legacy run deep. Founded in 1957, Vuarnet’s Legend was born when French ski racer Jean Vuarnet won the Olympic downhill at the 1960 Squaw Valley Games wearing the original 02 model with SkilynxTM lenses, a disruptive new technology. Vuarnet has been crafting exceptional eyewear ever since then in its factory near Paris, France, which has received the prestigious Living Heritage Company (EPV) label. Vuarnet was also a sponsor of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.

Offering the highest level of protection, Vuarnet mineral glass lenses provide absolute clarity in the intense alpine environment. Passionate about quality and innovation, Vuarnet is proud to protect athletes’ sight when it matters most. New for the brand since reentering the U.S. market in 2016 is the introduction of goggles and an entire sports collection, featuring bio-nylon lenses designed to meet the needs of the world’s best athletes and athletes at heart.

Vuarnet’s shared love of sport at all levels aligns with U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s mission in developing the future of competitive skiing and snowboarding.

“We are proud to enter into this new partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard and reintroduce ourselves to the competitive U.S. snowsports world,” said Vuarnet CEO David Belhassen. “The mountains are in our roots and DNA, and we look forward to supporting athletes as they pursue greatness on and off the slopes. Our founder, Jean, was all about innovation in style. We are happy to align in our shared values of hard work, perseverance and sheer love of snowsports and the mountains.”

“Vuarnet and skiing are synonymous. The brand enjoys a great history on the slopes, and we are thrilled to partner with them to introduce their world-class eyewear to a whole new generation of athletes and snowsports enthusiasts,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Chief Revenue Officer Michael O’Conor. “Vuarnet’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation mirrors our athletes’ pursuit of excellence. We could not be more thrilled to welcome them to the U.S. Ski Team family.”

Vuarnet is proud to bring on athletes across disciplines as part of its roster and looks forward to building the relationship with U.S. Ski & Snowboard year over year.

Today, Vuarnet produces its mineral glass lenses in its own French factory, using traditional manufacturing methods unchanged since its inception. Vuarnet mineral glasses, 100% natural and recyclable, provide the best protection against sunlight reflection thanks to LynxTM technology. Since 1957, the brand has offered timeless classic iconic frames that are still bestsellers.
