Head to Head Racing Hits Munich
MUNICH, Germany (Dec. 31) - Head-to-head alpine racing, featuring Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO), Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) and Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), hits the big city on New Years Day as the Munich Olympic Park hosts the first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup City Event of the season. The night time spectacle is set up as a parallel slalom with the top 12 slalom racers, plus the top four athletes in the overall standings dueling side-by-side in seeded bracket style knockout rounds. Mancuso won the last parallel event held in Moscow last February and Shiffrin is currently among the top slalom racers in the world. Both World Cup slalom and overall points will be awarded in addition to the winners pocketing 40,000 Euro. Universal Sports Network with broadcast the race live at 11:30 a.m. ET.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Munich Olympic Park will host the first of two scheduled Audi FIS Alpine World Cup City Events.
- The top 12 slalom athletes and top four overall athletes from each gender have qualified to compete.
- Mikeala Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO), Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) and Ted Ligety (Park City, UT) will represent the U.S. Ski Team.
- Athletes are seeded bracket style and will battle head-to-head with the fastest time from two runs moving on to the next round. Racers switch courses for each run.
- The winner of the first run will have a time advantage on the second run start with the maximum advantage being .5 seconds.
- Both World Cup slalom and overall points will be awarded with all competitors earning some points.
- Universal Sports Network will broadcast the race live at 11:30 a.m. ET.
