Sun Valley Hosts Second SuperTour Weekend

SUN VALLEY, ID (Dec. 5, 2015) -The Lake Creek venue in Sun Valley played host to the second weekend of USSA SuperTour competitions. Races began Saturday with a 1.3k classic sprint. In the women’s competition Becca Rorabaugh (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) sprinted her way to a first place finish just one second ahead of Kaitlynn Miller (Craftsbury Green Racing Project) followed by Caitlin Patterson (Crafsbury Green Racing Project) in third.

Dakota Blackhorse-von Jess (Bend Endurance Academy) won the men’s 1.3k sprint race by 1.13-seconds ahead of Reese Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) – who finished second in a freestyle sprint in the SuperTour races last weekend in West Yellowstone, MT. Tyler Kornfield (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) finished 3rd.

This is the second weekend in a row Blackhorse-von Jess and Hanneman had top three finishes in a sprint race, having respectively finished third and second in the freestyle sprint races at the USSA SuperTour opener in West Yellowstone, MT last weekend.

Competition continues Sunday with a 15k/10k classic mass start beginning with the women at 10:45 a.m. MT.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Becca Rorabaugh (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) sprinted her way to a first place finish (3:38.46), followed by Kaitlynn Miller (Craftsbury Green Racing Project) in second (3:39.47), and Caitlin Patterson (Crafsbury Green Racing Project) in third (3:39.47).
  • Dakota Blackhorse-von Jess (Bend Endurance Academy) won the men’s 1.3k sprint race (3:00.45) ahead of Reese Hanneman (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) (3:01.58) and Tyler Kornfield (Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center) (3:04.56).  
  • This is the second weekend in a row Blackhorse-von Jess and Hanneman had top three finishes in a sprint race, having respectively finished third and second in the freestyle sprint races at the USSA SuperTour opener in West Yellowstone, MT last weekend.
  • In the men’s competition, U.S. Ski Team members Ben Saxton (Lakeville, MN) finished 10th in the preliminary round while Patrick Caldwell (Lyme, NH) finished 26th, advancing them to the quarterfinals.
  • In the women’s competition, U.S. Ski Team members Katharine Ogden (Landgrove, VT) finished 10th in the preliminary round while Julia Kern (Waltham, MA) finished 17th advancing them to the quarterfinals. Ogden moved onto the semifinals but did not start her heat.
