Crossan Leads in Montafon Ski Cross

MONTAFON, Austria (Dec. 5 2015)- The 2015-16 World Cup ski cross season kicked off Saturday in Montafon, Austria with two American men finishing in the top 30. Brant Crossan (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Tyler Wallasch (Mammoth Lakes, CA) blasted through Friday’s qualifying round where all 32 men registered times with in 1.52 seconds of each other. On Saturday, both Crossan and Wallasch failed to make it through their heats coming in 27th and 29th respectively.
On the women’s side, Tania Prymak (Goshen, NY), was the top American finisher just missing the heats in 20th while top ranked American Whitney Gardner (So. Lake Tahoe, CA) took a hard fall in the qualifications and did not finish.
The Canadians came out on top of both the men’s and women’s fields with Christopher Delbosco besting fellow Canadian Brady Leman and Filip Flisar of Slovenia for the men. Marielle Thompson of Canada took the win for the women, and Anna Holmlund of Sweden and Katrin Ofner of Austria rounded out the women’s podium in second and third.
The Audi Ski Cross World Cup continues in Val Thorens, France, Dec. 11-12.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Canada’s Christopher Delbosco won the men’s race, followed fellow Canadian Brady Leman and Slovenia’s Flip Flisar.
- In the women’s race, Canada’s Marielle Thompson won, followed by Sweden’s Anna Holmlund and Austia’s Katrin Ofner.
- American’s Brant Crossan (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Tyler Wallasch (Mammoth Lakes, CA) earned top thirty finishes, claiming 27th and 29th respectively.
- Tania Prymak (Goshen, NY) finished 20th in the women’s race.
- Whitney Gardner (So. Lake Tahoe, CA) was a DNF after suffering a crash in the qualifying rounds.
