Position Summary:

• Deliver programs and projects of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Regional Alpine Development to members of the Western region.
• Identify, track, manage, coach, and otherwise develop regional athletes to their highest potential as competitors in the sport of alpine ski racing and advance them in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard development system.
• Improve the conduct of competitive ski racing in the Western Region of U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
• Assist in the development of professional coaches in U.S. Ski & Snowboard.

Attributes:

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
• U.S. Ski & Snowboard Coach’s certification as a level 200 minimum, or foreign equivalent.
• U.S. Ski & Snowboard official’s certification, referee/II minimum.  Required skills: Communication skills
• Racer management and individual training program design
• Team management and coordination
• Skiing skills teaching methodology
• Athletic training including physical, mental, and sport specific program design and implementation
• Financial, budget, and accounting skills.
• Ability to work in a "team" environment, to collaborate with co-workers and to work with volunteers
• Ability to support, deliver, and implement U.S. Ski & Snowboard goals, values, mission and vision

Preferred experience:

• Coaching at the Regional FIS level, coaching and/or racing at FIS level, demonstrated, successful use of the coaching skills described above.
• U.S. Ski & Snowboard / USST summer camp direction.
• Head coach of junior training team
• Experience in or knowledge of the Western Region.
• ISIA or PSIA certification and experience
• Coach’s development as skill teachers
• Children's learning methodology and skills development
• Instructor development leader, examiner or clinic leader

Responsibilities include:

Regional Projects: Manage and direct Western Region Development projects, Regional Training Group projects, and competition trips - U16 through U21 - as determined by the yearly training and competition plan. Act as team captain and/or head coach when assigned the role by the Regional Director. Account for the timely collection of fees prior to delivery of services with the regional manager.

Direct one Alpine national project annually where compatible with regional schedule. Participate in at least one other Tri-region and Bi-regional projects as staff as possible and scheduled.

Regional Athletes: Track athletes of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard national development program, regional team, training groups, and other levels indicating future potential. Maintain records and files on regional athletes, projects, and programs. Maintain regular communication with home program coaches of the Western Region. Coordinate management of the training and competition program of members of the Western regional team with home program coach participating in the athlete's long-term management. Implement individual and team training and competitive schedules, procedures, and methods. Communicate, report, and coordinate with the regional office on a continual basis. Provide instruction and methodology on conditioning to regional athletes. Track annual progress and test results.

Regional Budget: Assist the Regional Director and Manager in the preparation of an annual budget. Prepare a proposed budget for the regional projects assigned. Maintain accounting records for all projects; manage all projects and programs according to budget and accounting procedures. Make timely accounting reports on all expenses and projects.

Coaches and Club Education: Assist, contribute, and operate coach’s education and coach’s development projects including clinics, schools, mentoring, and writing for publication. Assist in the development and education of regional coaches through participation in, and direction of, education projects and development opportunities. Participate in Western Regional Coaches Symposiums, serve as a liaison with coach’s advisory committees, and attend Regional ACC meetings. Maintain and improve personal professional standing and education.

Divisional Projects: Assist divisional managers in design of divisional level skills acquisition projects such as delivery of SkillsQuest content to clubs and divisions in the region. Support divisional development projects.

Equipment: Maintain equipment, including rental vehicles, uniforms, training equipment, radios, video, and any other material.
