Athletic Development Coach High Performance Department

Position Summary
The Athletic Development Coach provides strength and conditioning services to athletes. This position collaborates with the High Performance Coordinator Team and sport coaches to implement the strength and conditioning services to a variety of athletes, many with acrobatic demands for their sport. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement and monitor all aspects of the yearly periodized plans for athletic development strength and power and ensure that each allocated athlete receives individualized training plans addressing their personal goals and weaknesses.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of applied strength and conditioning research projects with U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes.
  • Communicate with other members of the High Performance Team, including Sport Nutrition, Sports Medicine, Sport Psychology and Sport Coaching.
  • Work closely with all members of the team and organize, plan, and oversee athletes and coaches in a team environment.
  • Travel extensively to execute high-performance goals.

This position works primarily from U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Center of Excellence in Park City, Utah.

Main Attributes

  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and communication skills
  • Degree in exercise and sport science with a specialty in strength and conditioning preferred.
  • Other professional qualifications or certifications related to elite athlete conditioning or testing.
  • Experience with designing and administering elite athletic training programs (p. preferably with knowledge and experience of action/acrobatic sports)
  • Computer competence in a variety of data analysis programs.
  • Practical experience in a wide range of sport science testing protocols and the ability to work effectively as part of the High Performance Team.
  • Work closely with all members of the team and organize, plan, and oversee athletes and coaches in a team environment.

Duties

The Athletic Development Coach is responsible for assisting the management of all strength and conditioning activities and services delivered primarily, but not limited to, U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes.

The Athletic Development Coach is responsible for managing all of the primary duties listed below:

  • In conjunction with the Athletic Development Coordinator & Sport Coaches, design and execute the strength and conditioning programs for selected U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes, many of which have acrobatic components to their discipline.
  • Play an active role in training and testing equipment calibration, maintenance and repair.
  • Organize, schedule, and implement training times of U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
  • Supervise athletes training in the Center Of Excellence.
  • Lead and assist with team testing, and data analysis, interpretation and feedback to athletes and coaches return as needed by High Performance staff.
  • Educate conditioning coaches High Performance staff in new effective training techniques to ensure that they are kept abreast of new developments in the area of athletic conditioning.
  • Play an active role in the development of new sports education content for coaches and clubs.
  • Collaborate with all members of High Performance team (Sports Dieticians, Sports Psychologists, Sports Technologist, Sports Medicine & Sports Education staff) to drive world leading, multidisciplinary support to U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes and coaches.
  • Assist with High Performance Department Planning.
  • As part of a continuing education process in the High Performance Department, represent U.S. Ski & Snowboard at appropriate National and International meetings and forums.
  • As an important part of the High Performance Team, foster innovation and excellence in all aspects of the strength and conditioning center operation and goals.
