Rev Tour Heads to Mammoth

By U.S. Ski & Snowboard
February, 4 2015

MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CA (Feb. 4, 2015) – The next generation of Olympic freeskiers and snowboarders will descend upon Mammoth Mountain’s Unbound Terrain Park Feb. 9-13 for the third stop of the 2015 U.S. Revolution Tour. In addition to slopestyle and halfpipe, the Mammoth Mountain stop will host the first ever Revolution Tour big air contest for men and women in both skiing and snowboarding, giving these up-and-comers a key opportunity to compete at what will most likely be an Olympic discipline in 2018. Maddie Mastro (Wrightwood, CA) and Birk Irving (Winter Park, CO) will look to continue their tour domination, each with two 2015 tour wins, and all of the riders will be looking to get a piece of the $67,000 total tour prize purse.

MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • History:  Mammoth Mountain has a long and legendary competitive snowboarding history, hosting ten years of Grand Prix events and serving as the naming site for both the 1998 and 2014 Olympic snowboarding teams. This will be the second year of six that Mammoth will host both the U.S. Revolution Tour.
  • Big Air: Mammoth Mountain will host the first U.S. Revolution Tour big air contest for men and women in skiing and slopestyle.
  • Unbound: Mammoth features the famed Unbound Terrain Parks – that’s 11 parks, hundreds of features, three halfpipes and some of the best jumps in the world.
  • Elevation: At 11,053 feet, Mammoth boasts the highest summit of any California resort, making for deeper, higher quality snow, beautiful views and a season that can last until July.

REVOLUTION TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

  • Prize Purse: The Rev Tour has doubled its prize purse for the 2014-15 season for a total purse of $67,000.
  • Sanctioning: The Rev Tour will be a World Snowboard Tour National Level event as well as an AFP Silver Level event.
  • Sport Development: The U.S. Revolution Tour started in 2003 to bridge the gap from grassroots competition to the elite level, and it works. 2014 Olympic Champions Sage Kotsenburg, Maddie Bowman and Kaitlyn Farrington have all used the Rev Tour as a steppingstone to launch their successful careers.

QUOTES

Lauren Burke, PR Manager, Mammoth Mountain
We are all so excited to host another U.S. Revolution Tour here at Mammoth and watch some of the most progressive riding go down in the Unbound Terrain Parks. This year is unique because in addition to pipe and slopestyle, we are hosting Snowboard and Freeski Big Air – it should be an amazing competition featuring some of the best up-and-coming athletes.

Nick Alexakos, U.S. Revolution Tour Event Director
The 2015 U.S. Revolution Tour is excited to be returning to Mammoth Mountain for our second year in a row and we’re looking forward to our long term partnership with such a great resort. Mammoth continues to host top level events and the Unbound Terrain Parks crew is dedicated to making world class parks and pipes year after year.
