Mammoth Grand Prix Events Postponed

By U.S. Ski & Snowboard
February, 5 2015

MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CA (Feb. 5, 2015) – Due to inclement weather in the Sierra Nevada mountains, women’s and men's halfpipe snowboarding and slopestyle skiing qualifications at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix have been postponed.

“Because of the high winds, we decided to postpone both events,” said event organizer Eric Webster. “We want to ensure we have a fair and safe competition.”

Weather has been an issue all week. The women’s slopestyle snowboarding competition on Wednesday, Feb. 4, was cut short as well. Event organizers and riders agreed to use results from qualifications as the final results. Both skiers and riders are in support of the decision to postpone Thursday’s events.

“It was just unpredictable each run what was going to happen,” said slopestyle skiing Olympic medalist Devin Logan. “For safety reasons, so that everyone could walk away with out injury, they decided to postpone it.”

“It’s been pretty windy most of the week, but today it was gusty,” said halfpipe snowboarding Olympic champion Kelly Clark. “It’s one thing when you know what you’re getting into, but when you can’t anticipate what’s going to happen in your run it’s just not safe or fair. The event organizers made a tough call, but it was the right call.”

Event organizers will have an updated schedule available later in the evening on Feb. 5.
