Downhill Bronze for Vonn
Racing in her final Olympic downhill race, four-time Olympian Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.) won the bronze medal, leading three Americans into the top-seven Wednesday at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre.
"This is hard for me – I have so many emotions – this is my last Olympic downhill race in my career," Vonn said. "I am sad this is my last Olympics, I want to keep racing and I would love to be in the next Olympics, but I don’t think my body can take it.
"I wanted to win for my grandfather, but I think he would still be happy with bronze," Vonn added. "That is what counts. My family is proud of me – I am proud of me – and today, bronze feels like gold."
Vonn will compete in one more Olympic event, the alpine combined, which includes one run of downhill and one run of slalom Thursday. Kasper To Lead Team USA in Slalom

Diggins, Randall Win Historic Gold
Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska) and Jessie Diggins (Afton, Minn.) won the team sprint to give the United States its first-ever Olympic gold medal in cross country skiing.
“It’s a dream come true,” Randall said. “When Jessie and I won the World Championship together in 2013, I got to see that a team medal is worth far more than any individual accolade. What really kept me going over the last four years was trying to contribute towards a team medal, and to do it here and get to go with Jessie one more time, it's amazing.”
“This team brings out the absolute best in me and we had so many people working so hard to give us this opportunity,” Diggins said. “Kikkan and I both knew our jobs, and we both did them well today. That feeling of being able to cross the line and have Kikkan tackle me was the coolest thing ever.”
In the chaos of the finish, Diggins laughed when admitting she had to ask Kikkan what had just happened. Kikkan told her they had won!

Mack, Corning, Gerard Advance to Big Air Medal Round
Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Chris Corning (Silverthorne, Colo.) and Red Gerard (Silverthorne, Colo.) advanced to the medal round in big air competition at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Center.  Ryan Stassel (Anchorage, Alaska) finished 13th in qualifying heat 2 and did not advance to the finals.

Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.) finished fourth and Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.) was fifth in the third and final downhill training run at at Jeongseon Alpine Centre.

“I feel confident, I feel good and I’m going to give it my all tomorrow and we’ll see what happens,” Vonn told NBC following her final training run. “It’s all or nothing - same as super-G. I’m just going to give it all I have.”

Vonn, the 2010 Olympic downhill gold medalist, starts with bib 7 in Wednesday’s downhill, scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. KT / 9:00 p.m. EST Tuesday.

Joining Vonn for Team USA will be Breezy Johnson (Victor, Idaho), Laurenne Ross (Bend. Ore.) and Alice McKennis (Glenwood Springs, Colo.). Shiffrin will not start the downhill in order to focus on Thursday’s alpine combined.

Sigourney Grabs Halfpipe Bronze
Brita Sigourney (Carmel, Calif.) nailed her final run to grab the halfpipe bronze medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games Tuesday morning at Phoenix Snow Park.

Sigourney put down solid scores in her first two runs to rank third going into the final run. Fellow American Annalisa Drew (Andover, Mass.) briefly overtook Sigourney with a strong final run score of 90.80, but Sigourney responded, earning 91.60 to cement her bronze medal finish.
Cassie Sharpe of Canada won the gold medal with 95.80 points, as Marie Martinod of France, who took silver with 92.60 points. Drew finished fourth.

Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, Colo.), Alex Ferreira (Aspen, Colo.), Torin Yater-Wallace (Basalt, Colo.) and David Wise (Reno. Nev.), the defending ski halfpipe gold medalist,  all qualified for the medal round Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. KT / 9:00 p.m. EST Tuesday at Phoenix Snow Park.

Blunck led the way in qualifying with a score of 94.40 on his second run, which surpassed Ferreira, whose 92.60 was the best first-run score. Torin Yater-Wallace scored 89.60 on his first run to place third. Wise rallied to a 79.60 on his second run to finish eighth.

Randall, Diggins and Bjornsen, Hamilton Ready for Team Sprint
Kikkan Randall (Anchorage, Alaska) and Jessie Diggins (Aton, Minn) will represent Team USA in the team sprint on Wednesday 5:00 p.m. KT / 3:00 a.m. EST. Representing Team USA on the men’s side will be Erik Bjornsen (Anchorage, Alaska) and Simi Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.), starting at 5:50 p.m. KT / 3:50 a.m. EST.

“We are very excited to be starting two experienced teams that will be fighting for medals,” head coach Chris Grover said. “Kikkan and Jessie haven’t raced a skate team sprint together perhaps since they win gold together in Val di Fiemme (World Championships) in 2013. Both women are in top shape and are recovered from the relay and ready to go.

“Erik and Simi finished fifth in this event in Lahti (World Championships) last season, and have been targeting this race since last spring,” Grover added. “We have long known that this event is our best chance at a medal in PyeongChang and our service team will be pushing hard to ensure that we have great skis.”

Fletcher 17th in Final Individual Olympic Event
Skiing in his final individual Olympic event, Bryan Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) put in another strong performance to finish 17th in the large hill nordic combined event. Germany swept the podium in a race that came right down to the wire with Johannes Rydzek leading the charge to take gold.

Fletcher soared 120.5 meters to finish 23rd in the jump, starting two minutes, four seconds behind jump leader Akito Watabe, who ended up fifth.

“I put together a pretty decent jump,” said Fletcher. “It wasn’t the dream jump I had been hoping for but a solid performance. It put me into the chase group to give me a chance for a top 10 if I had a really good race.” … READ MORE

With the announced move of the Olympic alpine combined event from Friday to Thursday, Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.) will not start in Wednesday’s Olympic downhill in order to focus on the combined.
“As much as I wanted to compete in the Olympic downhill, with the schedule change it’s important for me to focus my energy on preparing for the combined,” said Shiffrin. “I’m looking forward to cheering on our girls racing in the downhill and to compete myself in Thursday’s combined.
“This track is incredible and it has been so fun to ski these last few days. As with every downhill I have skied this year I am learning so much with each run. Each time I get to the finish I just want to go back to the top and do it again!”
Shiffrin had always planned to compete in the giant slalom, slalom and the alpine combined, with decisions to be made at games time relative to her participation in both the super-G and the downhill.
On Monday evening, organizers announced a move of the alpine combined from Friday to Thursday due to projected weather, including high winds. The men’s slalom will remain on Thursday.
The new start time for women’s alpine combined is 11:30 a.m. KT Thursday / 9:30 p.m. EST Wednesday. Men's slalom still will be held on Friday, but now will start at 10:00 a.m. KT / 8:00 p.m. EST Thursday.

Vonn Third in Second DH Training Run
Lindsey Vonn (Vail, Colo.) finished third in Monday’s second downhill training run at Jeongseon Alpine Centre. Alice McKennis (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) was ninth, followed by Breezy Johnson (Victor, Idaho) in 12th; Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.) 16th; Laurenne Ross (Bend. Ore.) 19th; Alice Merryweather (Hingham, Mass.) 34th; and Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, Calif.) 38th.

Sigourney, Drew Bowman Advance to Medal Round

“In Sochi I was coming off a couple surgeries, not to mention I’m older, I have more experience and I listen to my body,” Sigourney said. “I know when to push it and I know when to take a break. Things are a bit different this time around.”
Canada's Cassie Sharpe was the top qualifier, followed by France's Marie Martinod. Drew was fourth, while Bowman was sixth.
Devin Logan (West Dover, Vt.) finished 15th with a score of 71.60 on her first run and did not advance to the final.

Shiffrin Comes Up Short in Slalom
Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.), the defending slalom gold medalist from the 2014 Sochi Games, just missed the podium, finishing fourth, in Friday’s slalom at Yongpyong Alpine Centre.
“It’s not about the medals, it’s about how I feel on my skis,” Shiffrin said. “And today I didn’t feel like myself. Coming here today and skiing real conservative was a huge, huge disappointment.”
Shiffrin struggled to find her rhythm on her first run, finishing fourth almost a half-second off the pace set by Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener. She found her groove on the second run, only to make a costly mistake near the bottom of the course that cost her precious time.
“I know I have the best slalom turns in the world, but I didn’t put it out in the two runs where it mattered,” Shiffrin added. “Sometimes I feel like in slalom that the only one who can beat me in slalom is me. And I beat myself in the wrong way today.” … READ MORE / RESULTS

Olsen Goes Big in Medal Round
Madison Olsen (Park City, Utah) punched her ticket to the medal round in women’s aerials on Friday night. After advancing through the first and second round of finals with two lower degree of difficulty jumps, Olsen went for broke and attempted a full, double full for the first time on snow. She missed the landing, but finished an impressive sixth in her first Olympics. It was the best U.S. women’s performance Nikki Stone won in Calgary in 1998.
“That was my first time doing that jump on snow, so I was definitely really nervous,” said Olsen. “But, I figured, why not do it in the super final at the Olympics? I could have hit a little bit of a better take off. I got into my twist and when I came out to land, I was just a bit under rotated. I’ll get it next time! I was really just enjoying the moment. The adrenaline was just pumping through my body and I was just super excited to be out there jumping and having a good time. Team USA Fired Up For 4x5k Relay
Jessie Diggins (Afton, Minn.) will lead a strong Team USA lineup in the women's 4x5k cross country relay on Saturday. Team USA announced its team that will include Sophie Caldwell (Peru, Vt.) and Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, Wash.) on the opening two classic technique legs followed by Kikkan Randall (Anchorage) and Diggins closing out on the freestyle technique spots.
Each of the four U.S. women has been on a World Cup podium in an individual event this season. "All four athletes are clearly in top shape and we feel this team is our best chance to bring home a medal for the USA," said Head Coach Chris Grover."Relays are my all-time favorite events and a medal would be the coolest thing because it shows the depth of our team," said Diggins. "You don’t get anywhere in life alone! We have a committed team of was staff giving me this awesome opportunity. I am fired up for the relay."
The relay is set for 6:30 p.m. KT / 4:30 a.m. EST Saturday.

Patterson 19th in 15k
Scott Patterson (Anchorage, Alaska), competing in his first Olympic Winter Games, lead the way for Team USA, finishing 19th, in the men’s 15k freestyle Friday at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre.
Erik Bjornsen (Winthrop, Wash.) was 41st, Noah Hoffman (Aspen, Colo.) 48th, and , Tyler Kornfield (Anchorage, Alaska) 74th.

SKI JUMPING
Two Into Large Hill Finals
Kevin Bickner (Wauconda, Ill.) and Norge Ski Club teammate Michael Glasder (Cary, Ill.) soared into Saturday’s large hill medal round in Friday night’s qualifying.
Bickner soared 122.5 meters to finish 35th. Glasder was 38th going 222.5m.
" My trial round gives me the confidence to be an underdog tomorrow in the medal round,” said Bickner.
Will Rhoads (Park City, Utah) missed finals by a mere two-tenths of a point. Casey Larson (Barrington, Ill.) was also just outside the qualification mark.
The large hill finals get underway at 9:30 p.m. KT / 7:30 a.m. EST Saturday.

Jacobellis Just Misses SBX Medal

The gold medal went to Italy's Michela Moioli, while Julia Pereira de Sousa Mabileau of France picked up the silver. Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic took the bronze medal, crossing the line a mere 0.03-seconds ahead of Jacobellis, the silver medalist from the 2006 Torino Games.

Meghan Tierney (Edwards, Colo.) and Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City) were in the third heat of the quarterfinal round, but crashed out and did not advance to the semifinals.

Shiffrin Wins Giant Slalom Gold
It took a few days, but the wait was very worthwhile as Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.) won the giant slalom gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games Thursday.
After three days of howling winds at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre that first postponed the giant slalom – originally scheduled for Monday – then Wednesday’s slalom event, racers were finally greeted with sunshine and a hard-fast course.
“I skied well,” Shiffrin said after the first run in which she finished second to Italy’s Manuela Moelgg by 0.02-seconds. “I skied loose and I put some of my good skiing from training in there. But I also feel like I can go a little bit harder and there’s nothing to hold back for on the second run. That’s the nice thing about the Olympics – you don’t hold back!"
Indeed, she held nothing back in the second run, posting the fastest time to move atop the leaderboard and put all the pressure on Moelgg, which was too much for the Italian as she slipped to eighth. Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel won the silver, while Italy’s Federica Brignone won the bronze.
“I feel like my best was good enough today," said Shiffrin after her win. "To have an opportunity to win a medal at the Olympics at all is incredible, so for me, today was special. After Sochi, I set a goal that I wanted to come to the next Olympics and I wanted to be one of the best giant slalom skiers in the world. Bennett Leads Team USA in Downhill
Racing under bright sunshine and on a perfect track, Bryce Bennett (Squaw Valley, Calif.) led Team USA in the downhill, finishing 16th, at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games Thursday.
“I treated this run like any other run," Bennett said. "I just didn’t perform the way I wanted. I will use this run to move forward, over the next four years, and I will be ready for the next Olympic Winter Games.”
Aksel Lund Svindal won Norway’s first-ever downhill gold. His countryman Kjetil Jansrud won the silver medal. Switzerland’s Beat Feuz won the bronze.
"I am super happy how I approached today and how I skied," said Jared Goldberg (Holladay, Utah), who was 20th. "I was skiing at a really high level and I am proud of that. Some things happened with the wind and made it very difficult for anyone in the middle of the pack to break the top 10. I have no control over that so I am just happy how I executed my run."
Ryan Cochran-Siegle (Starksboro, Vt.), who replaced Tommy Biesemeyer (Keene, N.Y.) after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Wednesday’s downhill training, was 23rd. Wiley Maple (Aspen, Colo.) made his Olympic debut and finished 30th. … READ MORE  RESULTS

McKinnon, Olsen Advance To Finals
After missing out on the top six in the first round of qualifications, Kiley McKinnon (Madison, Conn.) and Madison Olsen (Park City, Utah) found redemption in the second round of qualifications, finishing fifth and sixth to advance to Friday night’s medal round. Both McKinnon and Olsen landed a full, full and scored 87.88, with McKinnon taking the higher end of the tie breaker. Both athletes had to wait until the final competitor to see if they had secured their spots.
“I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to make it through, but to make it really means a lot to me,” said Olsen. “It’s a lot to wait and see if your score is going to hold, but I did the best I could and I made it through.”
“I didn’t have the best first jump, so I knew I had to go out there and do the best second jump I possibly could to make it in,” said McKinnon. “After that, it was a waiting game. That final moment when I knew was a huge relief.”
Ashley Caldwell (Ashburn, Va.) completed two triple jumps, a full, full, full and a lay, full, full, but was unable to land cleanly and missed out on finals.

Diggins Just Seconds Away From A Medal
Jessie Diggins (Afton, Minn.) finished fifth in the women's 10k freestyle Thursday afternoon at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Center.
Diggins was in contention for a medal, positioned in third place at the 6.2km and 8.4km intervals, but fell back over the final portion of the race to finish in 25:37.7, 3.3-seconds away from a podium finish.

In the big final, both riders missed their starts but planned to execute some passes farther down the course. Unfortunately both Baumgartner and Dierdorff carried a lot of speed into a jump between turns two and three and went deep, wiping out on their landings.

Despite missing the podium, Baumgartner and Dierdorff were both satisfied with their performances on the world’s biggest stage.

“I'm proud of how I competed,” said Baumgartner, with his 13-year-old son Landon by his side. “My kids not disappointed with me, so how can I be disappointed. I crashed, but that's part of the game. Sometimes you gotta pay to play. I’m walking out of here with fourth place, my best finish yet. My son is here to enjoy it with me - it’s a proud moment.”

“I go out here every day to try and win the race,” said Dierdorff. “I know how proud all my supporters are. Coming down to the finish and getting to see all my friends and family who came out here, I don't know if I've had a better feeling in my life. That made it all worth it.”

France’s Pierre Vaultier took home the gold followed by Australia’s Jarryd Hughes with the silver and Spain’s Regino Hernandez with the bronze. USA’s Hagen Kearney (Telluride, Colo.) missed advancing to the semifinals and finished 13th. Jonathan Cheever (Sagus, Mass.) was 28th.

Olympic snowboardcross action continues on Friday, February 16, with women’s seeding rounds at 10 a.m. KST / 8 p.m. EST Thursday and finals at 12:15 p.m. KST / 10:15 p.m. EST Thursday.

Men’s Snowboardcross

Shaun White (Carlsbad, Calif.) collected his third career Olympic gold medal, winning the halfpipe snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

White added PyeongChang gold to his Torino 2006 and Vancouver 2010 gold medal collection. In addition, his victory was the 100th Olympic gold medal won by Team USA in Olympic Winter Games history. Team USA has also swept all four snowboard gold medals awarded this far at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, adding White’s title to both Red Gerard and Jamie Anderson’s slopestyle victories, and Chloe Kim’s halfpipe victory.

The leader after the first run with a score of 94.25, White was displaced by Japan's Ayumu Hirano, who upped the ante with a second run of 95.25. That set up the drama of White's final run, which he nailed, soaring to a 97.75 to win his third Olympic gold medal.

Hirano held on for the silver medal, while Scotty James of Australia made his first run score of 92.00 stand up for the bronze medal.

Ben Ferguson (Bend. Ore.) finished fourth, while Chase Josey (Hailey, Idaho) was sixth and Jake Pates (Eagle, Colo.) eighth.

Biesemeyer Injured In Downhill Training
Team USA downhill skier Tommy Biesemeyer (Keene, N.Y.) suffered a season-ending right ankle injury during downhill training on Wednesday. He was taken by team medical staff to a local clinic, where he was treated and released. He will not compete in the men’s downhill. His place in the race will be taken by Ryan Cochran-Siegle (Starksboro, Vt.).
For Biesemeyer, it was a heartbreaking injury on the eve of his first Olympic event.
"I wonder why this happens. It is hard to not think if there is a deeper meaning to it all. You are supposed to be optimistic in times like these and say something like, ‘I will come back stronger than ever.’ But I just can't bring myself to do it. I am honored to have been named to Team USA and walking in the Opening Ceremony is a moment I’ll never forget.”
The men’s downhill is schedule to start Thursday at 11:30 a.m. KT / 9:30 p.m. EST Wednesday. Scheduled to start for Team USA are Bryce Bennett (Squaw Valley, Calif.), Jared Goldberg (Holladay, Utah), Maple Wiley (Aspen, Colo.) and Cochran-Siegle.

Women’s Slalom Postponed To Friday
Due to strong winds at the Alpensia Alpine Centre, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games women’s slalom has been postponed to Friday. The first run starts at 10:00 a.m. KT / 8:00 p.m. EST Thursday, and second run starts at 1:15 p.m. KT / 11:15 p.m. EST Thursday. Men's super-G start will be at 11:00 a.m. KT / 9:00 p.m. EST Thursday.
Despite the postponements, athletes and staff remain optimistic. “It is definitely unfortunate that we weren’t able to race today, but it is important we have a fair race for all of the athletes and today’s conditions would definitely not have been fair," said Mikaela Shiffrin. "Weather delays and postponements are just the nature of an outdoor sport, but we’ll continue to take it day by day and I look forward to getting in the start gate!”
Head Women's Coach Paul Kristofic agreed that, though this is a bummer, it is not entirely abnormal as ski racing is a sport that relies on Mother Nature to cooperate. "We’ve been through days like this before, in World Cup, quite often and the number one thing is safety and the second thing is to have a good, fair race," noted Kristofic. "So neither of those were achievable today. Now we’re going to get ready for giant slalom, so there’s going to be giant slalom training this afternoon. We roll with the punches and make the best of the situation and try to prepare the best we can for the next day.”

FREESKIING
Team USA Freeskiing Athletes Arrive At Games
Members of the Team USA halfpipe freeskiing team arrived in at the Games following a training block in Japan that turned into days of powder skiing.
"We actually went over to Japan for a training session, which quickly turned into powder skiing and we can’t really complain about that,” Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, Colo.) said. “It definitely put our heads in a great place moving into the Games."
Upon their arrival to PyeongChang, the team had a chance to witness Shaun White winning his third Olympic halfpipe snowboarding gold medal. It was clear his performance lit a fire under the freeski athletes.
"Shaun set the bar and now it’s time for us to see if we can match it,” said defending halfpipe freeskiing gold medalist David Wise (Reno, Nev.) “I feel very grateful to have been there and cheer the team on.”
Freeskiing halfpipe competition kicks off Monday with the women’s qualifying. The men’s qualifying is scheduled for Tuesday.

Fletcher Leads Team USA in 19th
Bryan Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) was the top American in 19th Wednesday in the normal hill/10k event. Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) was 35th, followed by Ben Loomis (Eau Claire, Wis.) in 41st and Jasper Good (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) 45th.
The Gundersen large hill/10k is scheduled for Tuesday, following by the team event on Thursday, Feb. 22.

Ligety Fifth In Alpine Combined
Ted Ligety (Park City, Utah) finished fifth in the men's alpine combined to lead Team USA at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre Tuesday afternoon at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
In the first-run downhill, Ligety finished 26th, 2.12 seconds off the lead, which proved to be too large of a margin to overcome to land on the podium, despite skiing the fourth-fastest time in the second-run slalom.
“I was happy with how I did today,” said Ligety, who won the 2006 alpine combined gold medal at the Torino Games. “To battle from a disadvantage against some of the best slalom skiers in the world isn’t really the formula for a medal, but I’m happy with how I skied both runs.” ... Shiffrin Opens Olympics With Slalom Wednesday
The women’s slalom is scheduled for Wednesday, with a first run start time of 10:15 a.m. KT / 8:15 p.m. EST Tuesday. The second run is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. KT / 11:45 p.m. EST Tuesday. Starting for Team USA are Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, Colo.), Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, Wyo.), Alice Merryweather (Hingham, Mass.) and Megan McJames (Park City, Utah.).

Diggins Sixth In Classic Sprint
Jessie Diggins (Afton, Minn.) skied with guts and determination, challenging for a medal in the Olympic classic sprint but falling just short in sixth. Sophie Caldwell (Peru, Vt.) was eighth on a windy night at the Alpensia Cross Country Centre.
The men's gold went to Norwegian Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo - his first Olympic medal, with Sweden's Stina Nilsson taking gold for the women in a hard fought battle with defending Sochi Olympic champion Maiken Caspersen Falla.
Simi Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) led the U.S. men finishing 20th after a quarterfinal crash that sent him to the back of the pack. Erik Bjornsen (Winthrop, Wash.) was 25th. Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, Wash.), who went out in a fast quarterfinal heat, was 12th. It was the first time the USA has ever placed three athletes into the top 12 in an Olympic cross country event.
While a medal eluded Team USA, it was a classic race outcome few could have predicted just a few years earlier. "For me, just making the final has been a huge step forward," said Diggins. "If you had told me a year ago that I would make the Olympic classic finals, I never would have believed you. We had really competitive skis today and we have such a deep and strong women’s team so I’m really stoked. Nordic Combined Kicks Off Wednesday
Nordic combined gets underway Wednesday with a blend of Olympic veterans and rookies for Team USA. Veterans Bryan and Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) will join first timers Ben Loomis (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Jasper Good (Steamboat Springs, Colo.). Competition starts Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. KT / 1:00 a.m. EST.

Chloe Gold - Arielle Bronze
Chloe Kim (Torrance, Calif.) made her long-awaited Olympic halfpipe debut and rode away with a gold medal.
On her first run of the three-run final, Kim opened up with a 93.75 to take the lead over China’s Jiayu Lui, who scored an 89.75 on her second run to give her silver. On her third-run victory lap, Kim nailed back-to-back 1080s – the first in Olympic history – to score a 98.25.
Arielle Gold (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) nailed her final run to take the bronze medal with a score of 85.75, bumping three-time Olympic medalist Kelly Clark (Mt. Snow, Vt.) into fourth with a score of 83.50.
With the gold medal in her pocket, Kim still wanted more out of her third and final run. "I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied taking the gold and knowing that I hadn’t put down my best," she said. "That third run was for me - to put down the best run I could do."

Team USA Qualifies All Four For Halfpipe Finals
Shaun White (Carlsbad, Calif.) led four Team USA riders in qualifying to advance to the final round of men's snowboard halfpipe Tuesday at Phoenix Snow Park.
The leader after the first run with a 93.25, White answered a challenge by Australian Scotty James and added more than five points to his second run score.
“Today was all about just getting into finals,” White said. “ I was stoked to put that first run down and it took the pressure right off. Then I saw everyone putting amazing runs down and I figured I would step it up and send it on my last one. I knew I had it in me and all the other riders just fired me up."
Ben Ferguson (Bend, Ore.) finished fourth, while Chase Josey (Hailey, Idaho) and Jake Pates (Eagle, Colo.) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
The men's halfpipe finals are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. KT Wednesday / 8:30 p.m. EST Tuesday.
