Upon hearing that Meri Stratton was retiring the Summer Fun Nationals race after 35 years at Mt. Hood, the Scroggins brothers, Jesse, Willy and Lloyd, of Willy Camp were determined to keep the summer race tradition alive! Willy Camp partnered with the Pacific Northwest Ski Education Foundation (PNWSEF) and Timberline to create the Wy'East Cup! All proceeds from the event benefit PNWSEF that is the non-profit fundraising arm for the Pacific Northwest Division. PNWSEF provides funding and supports athletes, coaches, officials and clubs across Northern Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.

The inaugural Wy'East Cup was held June 21-23, 2024. In keeping with tradition, it was a family affair with social gatherings every day! The event included GS and SL masters races and family fun races with age class, superseed, overall fastest, and family team awards. 

Spirits were high at Friday's Welcome Party with many familiar faces and volunteers eager to make the inaugural event a success. After a delay sorting out logistics with the race liability waivers (always sign those pesky online waivers several days in advance), 75 racers picked up their bibs, got the latest details, and caught up with fellow racers.

Saturday's GS offered perfect weather and race conditions. With the valiant efforts of the many volunteers, the timing challenges were abundant yet surmountable. The competition was excellent with almost all age classes represented and with the superseed separated only by 3-3.5 seconds per run. When planning a summer race event on a slope above treeline with no start/finish structures, hard-wired timing, or electricity there can be challenges beyond what may be encountered at the average race. Not to be thwarted by hiccups with computers and equipment interfacing, the timing crew relied on the tried and true tapes to ensure all racers received accurate times for the awards. Racers gathered for drinks and the peruse the silent auction items before the banquet and awards. After awards the racers were treated to live music from Roger That PDX. Roger's kids all ski raced in the Pacific Northwest Division and  Class 3 racer Matt Edlen is in the band. The music and dancing were a fantastic way to end the day.

Sunday's SL race brought the sun again but more wind this time. With little ability to adjust overnight, timing met a similar fate on Sunday making for a slow pace. Not to be deterred, the racers were geared up for a great day of competition. The weekend was capped off with a final awards party to present the SL awards as well as the overall fastest man, woman, and family awards for the weekend.

2024 Wy'East Cup Results

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 18, 2024) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard officially announced the 14 athletes named to the U.S. Nordic Combined Team for the 2024-25 season.

Two-time Olympian and four-time World Championships team member Ben Loomis and 2022 Olympian and 2023 World Championships team member Stephen Schumann return to lead the men’s nordic combined team for the 2024-25 season. Two-time World Championships team member Annika Malacinski will lead the women's roster.

The nordic combined season will kick off in Ruka, Finland on Nov. 28, 2024 for the first World Cup of the 2024-25 season. The World Cup season will wrap up for women’s nordic combined in Oslo, Norway, March 14-16 and Lahti, Finland, March 21-23 for the men.  

“I'm thrilled to announce this year’s nordic combined teams!” said Ski Jumping/Nordic Combined Sport Director Anders Johnson. “Their impressive progress over the past year has been remarkable and a true testament to their hard work and dedication. PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 17, 2024) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard is thrilled to announce the nine athletes who have accepted their nominations to the 2024-25 U.S. Para Snowboard Team across all classifications and disciplines. 

The 2024-25 U.S. Para Snowboard Team is highlighted by 2024 overall, banked slalom and snowboard cross Crystal Globe winner and 2024 “Best Athlete with a Disability” ESPY Award winner Brenna Huckaby and 2024 banked slalom and overall Crystal Globe winner Noah Elliott. Also headlining the team is two-time world champion and ESPY Award winner Zach Miller. Courtney Godfrey is new to the team this season after finishing the 2023-24 season ranked seventh in the world across banked slalom and snowboard cross events. 

“This is going to be a really exciting season for this team,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Para Sport Director Erik Leirfallom. “We had an extremely successful season last year, bringing home six Crystal Globes and the Nations Cup. Heading into a World Championship year, I’m confident that the team will build on that momentum and continue growing.” 

The 2024-25 FIS Para Snowboard World Cup season will kick off in late November in Landgraaf, Netherlands with two banked slalom races. The team will bounce between competitions in Europe and training in the states before finishing their season at the World Championships in Big White, Canada in March.

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 17, 2024) – U.S. Ski & Snowboard officially announced the 17 athletes who have accepted their nominations to the 2024-25 U.S. Ski Jumping Team for the 2024-25 season. 

Casey Larson, Erik Belshaw and Tate Frantz lead this year's men’s A Team. Two-time Olympian Larson is coming off of a shoulder injury this past summer, and will return to the hill in October for U.S. Nationals. Erik Belshaw had a personal best season in 2024-25, securing a silver medal at the Junior World Championship, becoming the first ever U.S. male ski jumper to medal at the event. And coming off last year’s personal best season, Frantz made a notable jump from last year's D Team, highlighted by his top 20 finish at the Ski Flying World Championships in Kulm, Austria last season. 

Annika Belshaw and Paige Jones lead the women’s team on the B Team. Annika Belshaw had more than 10 top-30 finishes in the World Cup competitions last season, while Jones had an impressive fourth place at the Intercontinental event in Lillehammer, Norway in December last year. 

“I am really excited about the upcoming season. The team has put in a lot of work during the offseason, and their growth has been incredible. They’re focused, motivated, and ready to compete at a high level,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard Ski Jumping Sport Director Anders Johnson. “I believe we're just scratching the surface of what they can achieve. I’m confident that if we keep this momentum going, we’re going to have a strong year ahead. The athletes are eager to get out there and prove themselves.” 

The 2024-25 FIS World Cup season will kick off for both men and women in Lillehammer, Norway on Nov. 22, 2024 on the large hill. The World Cup will come back stateside for a World Cup in Lake Placid, New York Feb. 6-8, 2025, where both men and women will compete. It will be the first time in history that U.S. women will have competed at a World Cup on home soil. The World Championships will be held in Trondheim, Norway from Feb. 27 - March 8, 2025.

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 17, 2024) — U.S. Ski & Snowboard will host three freeski and snowboard domestic World Cups and three NorAm events in the 2024-25 season. The World Cup events include the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain and Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air presented by Toyota at Aspen Snowmass, while the three NorAm-level stops include U.S. Revolution Tour events at Copper Mountain, Aspen Snowmass and Mammoth Mountain. 

Toyota U.S. Grand Prix & Visa Big Air
The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix is the longest-running winter action sports tour and plays a significant role in the Olympic qualification process ahead of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, with World Cups in 2024-25 counting towards Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team and Stifel U.S. Freeski Team athletes making Team USA.

The first Toyota U.S. Grand Prix of the season will take place at Copper Mountain on Dec. 18-21, 2024, featuring a halfpipe competition in the resort’s 22-foot superpipe. In conjunction, Copper will also host a new X Games event during the same weekend. More details will be announced soon. 

The second stop of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix will take place at Aspen Snowmass on Jan. 27- Feb. 2, 2025, along with the Visa Big Air Feb. 3-6, 2025, following the Winter X Games Aspen Jan. 23-25, 2025. Having hosted the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in 2021, Aspen will once again welcome the world’s best freeski and snowboard athletes to compete at World Cup-level halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events at their esteemed venues on Buttermilk Mountain. 

Additionally, aligning with the new strategic partnership between X Games and U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix winners at Copper Mountain will be invited to Winter X Games Aspen 2025. The next athlete in the results will be invited if the winning athlete has already secured an X Games invite. 

“The 2024-25 calendar is set and we are anticipating a great season, with many historically successful events back on the docket, alongside some new and exciting events set to debut,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard. “With the recent partnership between U.S. Ski & Snowboard and X Games, the world of freeskiing and snowboarding is being further elevated. We are excited to continue moving the needle of what’s possible alongside our amazing resort partners.”

U.S. Revolution Tour
The U.S. Revolution Tour consists of halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events and serves as a stepping stone for athletes transitioning from grassroots to elite competition. The 2024-25 season will feature three Rev Tour stops: Copper Mountain (Jan. 11-15, 2025), Aspen Snowmass (Feb. 8-12, 2025) and Mammoth Mountain (March 16-21, 2025). 

The men's and women’s freeski and snowboard athletes who win the overall Rev Tour title in slopestyle or halfpipe will earn an invite to the 2026 Winter X Games.

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 16, 2024) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard has announced the 12 athletes who have accepted their nomination to the 2024-25 U.S. Para Alpine Ski Team across all classifications and disciplines.

The team is highlighted by multi-time Paralympic medalists Laurie Stephens and Andrew Kurka, who also had podium finishes on the World Cup last season. Two-time Paralympian and Paralympic silver medalist Thomas Walsh and exciting up-and-comers Jesse Keefe and Audrey Crowley join them. New to the team this year is sit-skier Zach Williams from Medera, California, who earned the 2024 super-G national championship title. 

The 2024-25 FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup season begins in Steinach am Brenner, Austria in mid-December with three super-G and one alpine combined race. The team will spend most of the season in Europe, with stops in the States for the Huntsman Cup and U.S. Championships.

SEP. 16, 2024 - PARK CITY, UTAH - U.S. Ski & Snowboard is proud to announce the roster of 56 athletes who have accepted their nomination to the 2024-25 Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team.

The slopestyle, halfpipe, and snowboard cross rosters include experienced veterans and up-and-coming riders. Each team features a two-time Olympic medalist: Chloe Kim in halfpipe, Jamie Anderson in slopestyle, and Lindsey Jacobellis in snowboard cross.

The slopestyle pro team is highlighted by Red Gerard, the 2018 Olympic gold medalist, and two-time Olympian Chris Corning, who both lead a young crew of riders hungry to prove themselves on the World Cup circuit. The slopestyle rookie squad features two newcomers: 2024 Youth Olympic Games big air silver medalist Ollie Martin and 2024 slopestyle national champion Lily Dhawornvej. 

Sidelined by an injury midway through the 2023-24 season after winning X Games gold, two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim is set to return to the halfpipe World Cup circuit. Joining her is two-time Olympian Maddie Mastro. She looks to carry the momentum from her highly successful 2023-24 campaign into the upcoming season, having finished second overall in the women's halfpipe World Cup rankings. Team veteran and 2023-24 halfpipe assistant coach Maddy Schaffrick is back on the roster after deciding to return to competition earlier this spring. 2024 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Alessandro Barbieri and teammate Levko Fedorowycz jumped from rookie to pro while newcomers Zoe Guerrero and Orian Casas join the likes of a talented halfpipe rookie roster.

Team mainstays and reigning Olympic snowboard cross mixed team gold medalists Lindsey Jacobellis and Nick Baumgartner lead a young, exciting group of snowboard cross riders. The 2024 FIS snowboard cross rookie of the year Nathan Pare and teammate Theodore Mclemore move from rookie to pro, while Madeline Lochte Bono and Virginia Boyd earn a spot on the rookie squad.

“This year’s squad features a deep talent pool with a mix of veteran Olympic champions paired with young talent,” said Snowboard Sport Director Rick Bower. “It’s an exciting dynamic to see legends like Chloe Kim, Red Gerard and Nick Baumgartner mentor up-and-coming shredders like Rebecca Flynn, Cody Winters and Bea Kim. If the slopestyle World Cup in Cardrona is any indication of what’s to come, it’s going to be an exciting season!

With the slopestyle season already underway after the 2024-25 August opener in Cardrona, New Zealand, the squad looks to Switzerland for the first big air event of the season on Oct. 19, 2024, in Chur. The halfpipe season debuts Dec. 4-7, 2024, in Beijing, China, and snowboard cross will have a doubleheader Dec. 13-15, 2024, in Cervinia, Italy, to kick off their 2024-25 campaign.

Over 300 industry advocates voted this past summer to determine the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Eight individuals were selected from a pool of 70 nominees. 

The list is highlighted by Olympic gold medalist and freestyle skiing legend Hannah Kearney, Paralympian Sarah Billmeier, Barrett Christy Cummins, Denny and Chris Hanson, Greg Lewis, Jimbo Morgan, Chuck and Jann Perkins, and Park Smalley.

The honorees hail from notable ski areas across the country, such as Aspen, Colo., Truckee, Calif., Burlington, Vt, and more. Each honoree has touched ski and snowboard sports over the decades as past competitors, coaches and longtime advocates within the winter sports industry. 

The group will be officially inducted into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame in Lake Placid, New York.

Sarah Billmeier
One of the most accomplished Paralympic skiers of all time, Sarah Billmeier earned 13 Olympic medals – seven gold, five silver, and one bronze – from 1992 to 2002. Billmeier also holds six World Championship titles. Losing a leg to cancer at age five, she learned to ski at eight, was racing by ten and at 14, was the youngest member of the U.S. Disabled Alpine Ski Team. In 2001, she graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College, and in 2002, she retired from ski racing to pursue her medical career at Harvard Medical School. She is now a surgeon out of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Barrett Christy Cummins
Barrett Christy Cummins' distinguished snowboarding career included 11 X Games medals (1997-2002) and historic victories in halfpipe, big air and slopestyle. She remains the only female to win gold at the same X Games in two disciplines. She made history with the Barrett Roll, the first trick named after a female snowboarder. As a 1998 inaugural Team USA snowboard halfpipe Olympic team member and two-time TransWorld Snowboarding Female Rider of the Year, her influence extended beyond competition. Her 25+ year Gnu pro model is the longest-running women's snowboard. She has graced magazine covers, inspired action figures and mentored future athletes.

Denny & Chris Hanson
Denny and Chris Hanson started skiing as young racers in Michigan in the 1950s and ’60s. The brothers founded Hanson Ski Boots in 1970 and introduced the first commercially viable rear-entry ski boot. Together, the Hanson brothers set out to provide a comfortable performance ski boot for all skiers. This innovation spurred most major ski boot companies to introduce rear-entry designs in the late 70s and 80s. In 2006, Denny founded Apex Ski Boots, combining a snowboard-style inner boot with an open rigid chassis, a style once believed impossible. The unique product is still available today.

Hannah Kearney
Mogul skier Hannah Kearney is one of her sport's most accomplished international athletes. In 2010, she won Olympic gold, backing it up with bronze four years later at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. Her perseverance earned her a women's record-matching 46 World Cup moguls’ victories, equaling the best-ever total of a personal hero and Hall of Famer Donna Weinbrecht. In addition to her two Olympic medals, Kearney earned eight World Championship medals: three gold, two silver, and three bronze, four World Cup overall titles, and six World Cup moguls’ titles. Kearney retired in 2015 but remains an ardent mentor and cheerleader for her sport.

Greg Lewis
A preeminent voice of ski racing, Greg Lewis made his mark in a career spanning half a century. In 1972, he joined Bob Beattie's Worldwide Ski Corporation as Head of Communications for World Pro Skiing, quickly becoming the voice of World Pro Skiing and overseeing NASTAR public relations. Lewis covered winter and summer Olympic sports for NBC, CBS, ESPN, HBO, Turner and GGP for nearly 30 years. He also wrote and narrated ski films for Jalbert Productions. He is a two-time EMMY honoree and wrote feature profiles for Skiing Magazine. In 2015, ISHA honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jimbo Morgan
Freeskiing pioneer Jimbo Morgan helped coin the term “freeski,” and he was the first person to be photographed grabbing skis in the air. He was also a pioneer of the skicross discipline. Morgan was on the U.S. Speed Skiing Team, competed in the speed skiing demonstration event at the 1992 Olympics and participated simultaneously in multiple disciplines. His early embrace of snowboarding made an indelible impact on both sports. Morgan logged numerous big mountain descents in Europe and North America, starred in multiple ski films, and was on the first legitimate freeski team founded by K2 in 1997.

Chuck & Jann Perkins
Chuck and Jann Perkins' humble beginnings started with their Alpine Shop. They became preeminent philanthropic and personal advocates for the preservation of snowsport history, demonstrated by their lifelong support for the legacy of the 10th Mountain Division, the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers and the International Skiing History Association. Their decades of event hosting, time commitment and generous donations to regional snowsport museums and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame highlighted their commitment to preserving the history of snowsports globally. The Perkins have supported ski films, ski manufacturers and apparel companies, expeditions, museum displays, memorial statues, youth/collegiate ski and educational programs and more.

Park Smalley
Legendary freestyle coach Park Smalley is considered the “Father of Freestyle.”  He played a pivotal role in the sport’s early growth. As the first head coach of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, his athletes won seven Nation's Cups, 114 World Cup victories and 332 podiums. He was an early competitor in the sports ‘hot dog’ days, founder of a summer freestyle camp, helped initiate the International Freestyle Skiers Association, and was a CBS Olympic freestyle commentator. In his 25 years as coach, Park worked with over 3,000 athletes, including many Hall of Famers.

PARK CITY, Utah (Sept. 13, 2024) - U.S. Ski & Snowboard officially announced the 36 athletes who have accepted their nominations and will join the Stifel U.S. Freeski Team for the 2024-25 season. These nominations are based on predetermined selection criteria.

Two-time Olympic medalist and 2023-24 overall Crystal Globe winner Alex Ferreira leads the charge on the halfpipe front after his perfect 2023-24 season. Ferreira will not go unchallenged, as two-time Olympic champion David Wise, Olympian and 2022-23 Crystal Globe winner Birk Irving, Olympian Aaron Blunck, and X Games medalist Hunter Hess will all be returning to the halfpipe pro team. Three-time Olympic medalist Nick Goepper is making his debut on the halfpipe team after a hugely successful career in slopestyle skiing and is sure to leave his mark. Dylan Ladd, Cassidy Jarrell and Tristan Feinberg are also returning team members rounding out this wildly successful men’s squad. Olympian and world champion Hanna Faulhaber and X Games medalist Svea Irving return to the women’s halfpipe team after successful 2023-24 seasons. Riley Jacobs, who earned a spot through consistent top-six finishes at World Cups last season, is new to the pro team.

The halfpipe rookie team comprises many rookie veterans, led by Matt Labaugh, who begins the 2024-25 season ranked 12th in the world. Kate Gray returns to the rookie team as she balances competing in all three disciplines. New to the rookie squad are Cael McCarthy and Piper Arnold. McCarthy is the reigning NorAm halfpipe champion, a 2023 Junior World Championship competitor. Arnold is a consistent competitor in the women’s field and brought home fourth at the 2023 Youth Olympic Games.

On the slopestyle and big air side, Olympic champion and 2023-24 big air Crystal Globe winner Alex Hall and Olympian and 2023-24 slopestyle Crystal Globe winner Mac Forehand are ready to defend their titles. They are joined by Olympic medalist Colby Stevenson, X Games gold medalist Troy Podmilsak and Konnor Ralph, Hunter Henderson and Cody LaPlante to complete the men’s team. For the women, X Games medalist Rell Harwood returns to the squad alongside Grace Henderson and Marin Hamill. New to the women’s pro team this year is Jay Riccomini (he/him), who earned his spot after multiple World Cup podiums in the 2023-24 season.

The slopestyle and big air rookie team welcomes two new members: Ella Andrews and Hugh MacMenamin. Andrews joins the team after a hugely successful 2023-24 season, including a second place finish in slopestyle at the Toyota U.S Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain and a silver medal in slopestyle at the 2024 FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Livigno, Italy. MacMenamin also had an impressive 2023-24 season with a great showing in the 2023 FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Cardrona, New Zealand and a second place slopestyle finish at the Copper Mountain NorAm.

“I am very proud of the group of individuals named to the Stifel U.S. Freeski Team for the 2024-25 season,” said Skogen Sprang, Freeski Sport Director. “They have all worked very hard to get to this point and continue to push and support each other, fostering a unique culture that promotes positivity and success. We are excited to continue to push them to be the best humans they can be and achieve the highest standards on the freeskiing world stage.”

The 2024-25 World Cup calendar is exciting, with the halfpipe team cutting their summer break short and kicking off the season in Cardrona, New Zealand. The schedule packs five halfpipe, five slopestyle, six big air World Cups, and the X Games. The 2024-25 season will conclude in St. Moritz, Switzerland, for the FIS Freestyle World Championships 2025. 

Freeski athletes will compete on home soil twice this season. The halfpipe team will be at Copper Mountain, CO, for the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix from Dec. 19-21, 2024. The Toyota U.S. Grand Prix and Visa Big Air presented by Toyota are back in Aspen, CO, this season, where fans can catch halfpipe, slopestyle and big air events from Jan. 29 - Feb. 6, 2025.

Last weekend, Noah Elliott of the U.S. Para Snowboard Team was named the Colorado Snowsports Museum Adaptive Athlete of the Year at their annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Elliott is originally from St. Charles, Missouri but has spent most of his life living and training in Colorado, now calling Colorado Springs home. 

Elliott is coming off of one of his most successful seasons yet. He finished on the podium at almost every World Cup, earning the overall and banked slalom Crystal Globes. Throughout his competitive career, Elliott has become a two-time Paralympian and a Paralympic Champion, bringing home the banked slalom gold in 2018. At the same games, he also took bronze in snowboard cross. He is a four-time World Champion and has seven World Championship medals to his name.

“This is an organization that is truly for adaptive sports,” said Elliott during his acceptance speech. “It’s something that is changing the way we view disability; it's giving kids out there that have cancer like myself an opportunity to continue to strive for something, so I’m extremely honored to be here tonight.

At the same event, Lindsey Vonn and John McBride were named to the Colorado Snowsports Museum Hall of Fame, joining hundreds of other snowsports legends.
