Season 2025 Alpine Officials Education Working Group

Welcome to the 2025 Racing Season. We welcome all officials, returning and new, to what will be an exciting season of ski racing. We know that officials come from many different backgrounds, such as those that coach and become referees, or those that are parents that want to be more involved and become an RA, TnC, Jury Advisor, etc. There are officials that have been doing this for many years and have furthered their track to the TD level, and those that have been in the same jury position for their club for decades.

The goal of all officials is to create a fair and secure environment for ski racing to take place. In order to make that happen we complete an update of our Officials materials annually. We require annual Clinics for some of our key officials, and every other year updates for all officials to maintain their certifications. Taking the time to complete these reviews in the fall helps us ‘dust the cobwebs,’ and take time to connect with other officials in our area or other parts of the Nation!

It takes a village to ensure our materials are up to date annually, and I would be amiss if I did not take a moment to thank all of those that helped review and prepare our materials this summer. I appreciate the countless hours of reading, confirming rules, sitting behind computers, preparing power points, reading study guides a second time, etc. My hat is off to all that take a little extra time to make sure we have a successful season.

Thank you for being an Alpine Official and I wish each and every one of you a successful season on the hill!

Alpine Officials Manual

The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Alpine Officials Education Working Group has assembled a comprehensive manual for alpine officials. This manual is a guide to race organization, the rules, and duties of officials, timing and calculations, and other subject areas important to alpine officials throughout the country. The Manual has been updated for the 2024 season.

It is intended to be as thorough as possible with updates and revisions produced as necessary. However, it is not meant to be a step-by-step ‘cookbook’ with definitive procedures for every race situation.
