Luke Winters first learned to ski in Oregon and cultivated his love for racing out of Sugar Bowl Academy in Lake Tahoe, California. Winters became a strong skier in the technical disciplines, honing in on slalom. He has since become a key athlete on the men's slalom team.
Some of Winters top performances on the World Cup circuit include seventh place in the Flachau slalom, eighth place in Meribel slalom, 10th place in the Adelboden slalom and 11th place in the Kitzbuehel slalom. In 2019, he grabbed his first national championship title, landing on the top of the podium in alpine combined at Sugarloaf, Maine. He then followed that up with his second national title, in slalom at Waterville Valley, N.H.
Winters is a pilot and is currently working on his instrument rating. Aside from skiing and flying planes, Winters also enjoys fishing, hunting and surfing. He also has a twin brother and two sisters.
"I didn’t expect really to win that combined because I hadn’t trained much super-G, but I’ve been training slalom all year... and then to come here and do this, get two wins after never winning a national title before, is pretty fun."
