SIERRA NEVADA, Spain (March 25) – At the conclusion of the FIS World Cup halfpipe season Monday, Torin Yater-Wallace (Basalt,CO) stood second and David Wise (Reno, NV) third in the halfpipe standings, yielding the globe to Canadian buddy/rival Mike Riddle. The men’s final was canceled due to fog, so officials used qualifier scores as the final. As a result, Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) finished fifth, the top finisher for U.S. Freeskiing, while Riddle took the top spot.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • At the conclusion of the FIS World Cup halfpipe season Monday, Torin Yater-Wallace (Basalt, CO) stood second and David Wise (Reno, NV) third in the halfpipe standings.
  • The globe went to Canadian Mike Riddle.  
  • The men’s final was canceled due to fog, so officials used the athlete’s two qualifier scores from earlier in the day as the final scores.
  • As a result, rookie team member Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) finished fifth, the top finisher for the U.S.
  • Fellow rookie Alex Ferreira (Aspen, CO) finished sixth.
  • Yater-Wallace and Wise were not present at the World Cup final.
  • Riddle took the top spot for men.
  • A brief break in the fog allowed a one-run final for the women. Judges took the best score from either today or from the one qualifier run the athletes laid down the previous day.
  • Maggie Stout (Blue Mountain, PA) finished seventh, Annalisa Drew (Andover, MA) 11th and Hannah Haupt (Sun Valley, ID) 12th.
  • Canadian Rosalind Groenewoud finished first for the women.
  • It was the final event of the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup Finals and the last international event for U.S. Freeskiing after a solid showing in halfpipe, slopestyle and skicross.
