LIENZ, Austria (Dec. 28) - Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) battled the long and rugged Audi FIS Alpine World Cup in Lienz for fifth to stretch her World Cup overall lead to 231 with just one race remaining before the New Year. Austrian Anna Fenninger, 22, won the race for the first World Cup victory of her young career with Italian Federica Brignone in second and Tessa Worley of France third.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lindsey Vonn was fifth in the Lienz giant slalom behind race winner Anna Fenninger of Austria
  • Vonn now leads the overall World Cup standings by 231 over Fenninger and is fourth in the GS standings
  • Minimal snow made for slick and bumpy conditions on one of the longest GS venues on the women's circuit
  • Julia Mancuso was 17th and Sarah Schleper 23rd
  • A slalom, the final women's World Cup of 2011, is scheduled for Thursday in Lienz

QUOTES
Lindsey Vonn

I was a bit nervous because it was the first time ever I started No. 1. Especially in GS, it's only the third race that I am in the top seven, so it's pretty exciting.

The course is awesome, the snow is perfect, they've done a really good job. It's not easy. You see there is no snow in the area, but they made the race hill perfect.

TV
Universal Sports will air the race at noon and 5 p.m. ET on its 24-hour TV network
