Preview: Women's Giant Slalom

SCHLADMING, Austria (Feb. 13) - Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) will be going for a sixth career World Championships medal in Thursday's giant slalom at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming. She will be joined by Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO), making her career first major event start and Laurenne Ross (Bend, OR). Universal Sports Network will provide coverage at 11:00 a.m. EST

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) will be going for her sixth career World Championships medal in the giant slalom.
  • It will also mark the first major championship event start for Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) who has three top ten finishes in Audi FIS Alpine World Cup giant slaloms this year.
  • Mancuso is tied for the most World Championship wins by an American with Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller.
  • Laurenne Ross (Bend, OR) will also start. 
  • 139 athletes from 55 nations are expected for the race, historically the largest field of the World Championships.
  • Universal Sports Network will carry same-day coverage at 10:00 a.m. EST
  • Over 20,000 fans are expected.
  • The 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships will return to the USA for Vail/Beaver Creek 2015.
