Winters Sixth in World Juniors PGS

ROGLA, Slovenia (April 2, 2016) – The U.S. scored a phenomenal finish in parallel giant slalom at the FIS Junior World Championships when Billy Winters (Steamboat Springs, CO) placed sixth on Saturday.

Winters, who snowboards with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, will also compete in parallel slalom and snowboardcross April 4-6. Two Russians took the top two spots: Dmitry Sarsembaev in first and Dmitriy Karlagachev in second. Gabriel Messner was third.

Devin Dougherty (Easton, PA) finished 28th for the men, while Myles Silverman (Brunswick, ME) was 35th, Grant Abrahamson (Chanhasen, MN) 46th and Zach Lulavy (Golden Valley, MN) did not finish.

Maggie Carrigan (Steamboat Springs, CO) led the U.S. women, finishing 20th, while Karina Bladon (Wayland, MA) was 22nd and Emily Dziak (Bethlehem, PA) was 28th.

Up next at the Junior World Championships of snowboarding, the alpine athletes will compete in parallel slalom and then the snowboardcross athletes will compete April 4-6, also in Rogla. Jake Vedder (Pinckney, MI) and Meghan Tierney (Edwards, CO) will lead a team of strong snowboardcross contenders. Vedder was the 2016 gold medalist in snowboardcross at the Youth Olympic Games in February.
