Tuttle Slides to His First Podium
VALMALENCO, ITA. (Mar. 14) – Alex Tuttle (Sugarloaf, ME) took his first World Cup podium at the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Valmalenco, Italy. Stian Sivertzen of Norway won the event and Hagen Kearney (Telluride, CO) was fifth. The team looks to its final World Cup race on this Friday, March 16 in Valmalenco, Italy.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Alex Tuttle (Sugarloaf, ME) took the lead for the U.S. and second place at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.
- Tuttle, from Carrabasset Valley Academy, earned the first podium of his World Cup career.
- Hagen Kearney (Telluride, CO) finished 5th.
- Kearney rides with International Snowboard Training Center in Colorado and is currently leading the Nor Am tour.
- Pat Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) was in ninth position.
- For the women, Faye Gulini (Salt Lake City) came in 10th
- The World Cup tour continues Thursday and finishes up on Friday, March 16, in Valmalenco.
- Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA) is second the snowboardcross World Cup standings with little chance to move to the top but with others close behind in the standings
- Jonathan Cheever (Saugus, MA) is fourth in the standings but is out for the season.
- Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI) is in sixth place in the season standings.

That's by far my best result. I never made a big final before. To finish the first one like this was great. I battled with Stian (Sivertzen) all day. He was riding phenomenal. It was great, awesome. I didn't expect this at all. I came in super tired. I had a ton of races in the past weeks. My hopes weren't that high, but it seems that it clicked today.

The speed was always there and he has been putting this together all season. He rode strong the whole way through and kept edging Sivertzen for first. It was a great day.
