Marino and Anderson 1-2 at Stoneham World Cup
STONEHAM, Canada (Feb. 12, 2017) – Julia Marino (Westport, CT) continued her dazzling season with a win at the 2017 Jamboree by Videotron Mobile World Cup slopestyle event on Sunday. Jamie Anderson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) finished just behind her in second.
Marino also hit the podium in Saturday night’s big air event, with a second-place finish on the scaffolding jump built in downtown Quebec City. Athletes battled flat light in the slopestyle event, but Marino was able to best the field in the challenging conditions.
“I had a really fun time today although we had some flat light,” said Marino, who often trains at the nearby Maximise facility. “All the girls put down their hardest runs. But it’s cool - we push each other.”
Anderson managed a second-place performance despite her luggage not arriving in Canada until the last minute.
“I’m super happy to put one down after a super tough week here,” Anderson said. “I lost my bags, which just showed up yesterday. So it was all new gear, which I wasn’t comfortable with.”
Local girl Brooke Voigt rounded out the ladies podium in third, and the Canadian men continued their domination with Sebastien Toutant and Mark McMorris taking first and second respectively. Young Norwegian phenom Marcus Kleveland was third.
Brock Crouch (Carlsbad, CA) was the top American finisher for the men, coming in 10th. Eric Beauchemin (Grand Blanc, MI) also made the final, but was unable to put down a run, finishing 16th.
Up next for U.S. Snowboarding is the Olympic test event for halfpipe at the Bokwang Phoenix Park Resort in South Korea Feb. 17-19.
