Ligety Survives Wild Ride for Fourth

BEAVER CREEK, CO (Dec. 1) - Ted Ligety survived a rock and roll ride down a challenging super G course at the Audi Birds of Prey to take fourth, matching his result from Lake Louise a week ago. Italian Matteo Marsaglia was a surprise winner for his first Audi FIS Alpine World Cup podium. Ligety remained second in the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall behind Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal who was second in the race. Action continues at Beaver Creek Sunday when Ligety takes on the world in giant slalom, five weeks after his record 2.75 second GS win in Soelden. NBC Sports Network (former Versus) will broadcast the GS live at 2:35 p.m. EST.

• Ligety will take on the world in the Audi Birds of Prey GS Sunday with live coverage on NBC Sports Network (former Versus) at 2:35 p.m. EST.

I felt like I skied really well especially on the top. With the great conditions here you could do just whatever you wanted on the snow. I made a couple small mistakes on the bottom so it's a bummer to be just a few hundredths off the podium. But I'm happy with how I skied overall. Super G now is my second best event. I'm getting better in super G and hopefully I can keep it going and keep scoring some points and have a chance for the overall. But the way Aksel's skiing it's crazy - he's going to be tough to beat.

I've always done well in the GS here. The snow is the best it's been in a long time. Hopefully I can put together two decent runs.

I'm good at turning and feel I'm a good tactical skier. Today suited my style. You had to ski smart. You had to really attack the turns and the speed was controlled through the tightness of the course. That really amped me up going into the race.

Getting the course report I was pretty nervous just because I knew you had to ditch speed in places and that's not too comforting. It's a fine line to know what's too much and what's too little. But I skied tactically smart, I skied aggressive loose and athletic - and that's my goal always.

I was super surprised that I could get in the points in my first race. This is the coolest thing I've ever experienced.

I was up top and I heard my teammate Jared Goldberg had a great run and that pumped me up. I was like, OK, guys I ski with everyday are puting it in there and so I knew that I could too.
