Career Best Distance for Bjornsen

LAHTI, Finland (March 10) - Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, WA) came back with a second straight career best World Cup day, finishing 18th in the 10k classic at the Lahti Ski Games. Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland extended her World Cup lead with the win. Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) led the U.S. men in 25th in the 15k with Norway's Petter Northug taking the win.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Sadie Bjornsen (Winthrop, WA) was 18th in the 10k classic at the Lahti Ski Games.
• It was the second straight career best day for Bjornsen, this time best World Cup distance finish. Saturday she was ninth for a career best individual sprint.
• Kikkan Randall (Anchorage) and Liz Stephen (Montpelier, VT) tied for 28th with Randall retaining her third ranking spot in the World Cup overall. Saturday Randall clinched the World Cup sprint title.
• Kris Freeman (Andover, NH) was 25th to lead the men in a 15k classic won by Petter Northug of Norway.
• The tour now heads to Drammen, Norway for a city sprint Wednesday then to Oslo, Norway for next weekend's Holmenkollen before finishing in two weeks at Falun, Sweden.

Today was an exciting race purely because of the unknown factors of an individual start race. I have only done one other this year, and that was at nationals. It was fun to go out there and ski my own race - pushing where I felt like I could and making up time where I felt like others may forget to. My skis were great, my energy was great, and I went out there with a mission. It is exciting to be able to put together a weekend of personal bests after World Championships where I never felt like I hit my potential.
