Anderson Lands Slopestyle Victory

BRECKENRIDGE, CO (Dec. 13) – Fading light and cloudy skies made for a tough competition Friday, but American Jamie Anderson (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) reigned in an amazing second run to win the Dew Cup and the first-ever slopestyle snowboarding Olympic qualifier at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships. After falling in her first run, Anderson scored a 96.00 with her second run, elevating the level of competition for the first event of the qualification series and putting herself in a strong position to be selected to the first U.S. Olympic slopestyle snowboarding team. Next the women head to Copper Mountain for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Dec. 21-22, the second Olympic qualifier.

• American Jamie Anderson (S. Lake Tahoe, CA) reigned in an amazing second run to win the Dew Cup and the first-ever slopestyle snowboarding Olympic qualifier Friday at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships at Breckenridge.
• After falling in her first run, Anderson answered back with a 96.00 for her second run, a full five points ahead of the rest of the women, elevating the level of competition for the first event of the qualification series and putting herself in a strong position to be selected to the first U.S. Olympic slopestyle snowboarding team.
• To qualify for the Olympics, snowboard athletes must secure at least a top-four result, with tiebreakers going to the athlete with the best individual result. There are four total qualification events.
• U.S. Snowboarding athlete Jessika Jenson (Rigby, ID) finished a career-best fifth, after qualifying seventh on Wednesday.
• Fading light, cloudy skies and falling temperatures made for a tough competition, and all of the athletes had trouble landing their runs during the first round.
• In the end, the veterans were able to land clutch runs under pressure with Anderson edging out ahead despite solid runs by Finish rider Enni Rukajarvi and Norwegian Silje Norendal.
• Anderson’s run: back blunt to gap to boardslide to switch out, cab 720 tail, switch backside 540, front 360 shifty and a huge backside 540.
• The men’s halfpipe final airs live on NBC Saturday at 12 p.m. EST, while the men’s slopestyle final will kick off on Sunday at 3 p.m. EST and air live on NBCSN. Click here for full TV schedule.
